The Department of Education (DepEd) has taken a significant step toward promoting mental health in schools. Education Secretary Sonny Angara recently signed the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of the Basic Education Mental Health and Well-Being Promotion Act. This initiative aims to create a safer learning environment by ensuring that both students and teachers have access to necessary mental health support.
As part of the implementation, Mental Health and Well-Being Offices will be established in high-need areas, led by Schools Division Counselors. Additionally, larger schools will have dedicated school counselors to enhance mental health care and support within DepEd’s programs.
